Learning about genocides these past few weeks has made a huge impact on me. I have a whole other perspective on the world because I never realized how someone could be so evil. I have always been a person to find the light in everyone and everything. It was hard for me to learn about the Holocaust because there was no good in anybody who took part in it by hurting other people and it was emotionally very harsh reading Night and learning about Elie Wiesel's horrible experience, and going to the Holocaust museum and seeing visuals. My perspective on humanity has changed. I always knew bad things happened but I never knew how extreme it could get especially learning that there were camps just for killing and people being gassed or burnt to death when they had done nothing wrong.I have taken away a lot from this unit learning about the Holocaust. The hardest part for me to understand is how somebody could be so horrible and how other countries didn't believe what was happening during the Holocaust. There are many ways we could pay tribute and bear witness today. Some examples are writing letters to survivors, sharing articles and videos to friends and family, writing poems and music, and creating a piece of artwork. Elie Wiesel wrote Night and it wone a Nobel peace prize. He inspired many people especially come out and talk about there experience so we can learn about the horrible things that have happened and not repeat them.

The way Wiesel writes his memoir is almost like it’s written in prose, he is extremely descriptive with his writing, and his sentences flow, but he keeps the plot fast-paced and moving like the greatest poems are. There was one part I read that almost brought me to tears: the uncertainty of it, the questions it left, and the horrifying thought that it was pure hope that was keeping these people alive when there truly was nothing to hope for. “Take care of your son. He is very weak, very dehydrated. Take care of yourselves, you must avoid selections. Eat! Anything. Anytime. Eat all you can. The weak don’t last very long around here”… And he himself was so thin, so withered, so weak… “The only thing that keeps me alive,” he kept saying, “is to know that Reizel and the little ones are still alive. Were it not for them, I would give up.”  One evening, he came to see us, his face radiant. “A transport just arrived from Antwerp. I shall go to see them tomorrow. Surely they will hav...

Learning about the Holocaust has had a great impact on me. Previously I had little knowledge of its existence, now I know of its horrific impact on our past and present. It's difficult to comprehend the suffering these people went through. Even though it's devastating to process we have to understand so that we don't make the same mistakes. Nadia Murad’s article filled me with empathy as well as anger. Our world is still infected with thriving hatred, people are truly suffering. As citizens of a free country, we must take action, support survivors and give them justice. We need to stop squabbling over the small things and fight for human rights.

The about the Holocaust has made me more aware of how easy it is for us to turn to evil and believe it’s right. When I was first learning about the Holocaust, the word fear seemed to stand out the most to me. The Germans blamed all of their problems on the Jews because of fear, they put the Jews in ghettos because of fear, or they tried to annihilate all the Jews because of fear. I think it is really important to pay attention to people’s feelings especially feelings like fear and desperation. I feel like we, the world let this happen. We allowed this to happen because of our arrogance. We expected that just because we gave Germany a whole bunch of rules to follow and took some of their land, they would immediately become subordinate to us. And even after the Holocaust we in America allowed things like this happen during the civil rights movement. They’re are some people out there that no matter what you do, will not become good people and it is our job to protect people from those h...
