In Elie Wiesel’s novel Night, we are introduced in Wiesel’s life during the holocaust and how he survived throughout the terrible time. On page 32, Wiesel is talking about how they were throwing the Jewish babies into the flames without hesitation. This got to me because of how the Germans could just through living people into a fire, just because they are Jewish. “ Something was being burned there. A truck drew close and unloaded its hold: small children. Babies! Yes, I did see this, with my own eyes . . . children thrown into the flames” (Wiesel 32). I do like Wiesel’s choice with his words in this passage and I do enjoy on how he uses the words. I do enjoy on how he makes it seem as if I am right there with him in his writing, it captures me into the book unlike many others can do. I did notice in his writing throughout page 47 that he uses many one word sentences. The second passage in the book that we've read so far is on page 6, where Wiesel is explaining how the adults would be shot without a thought and the infants would be tossed in the air and used as targets for the Germans shooting with their machine guns. He begins the quote as, “ Without passion or haste, they shot prisoners, who were forced to approach the trench one by one and offer their necks. Infants were tossed in the air and used as targets for the machine guns” (Wiesel 6). I enjoy Wiesel’s choice in words in this passage because of how he paints the picture in my head with the detail he used. Throughout the novel so far, I have saw that his writing is quite fast paced, as his is jumping through weeks in a matter out pages. Although the writing is fast paced, it still does have me engaged as any other book would.
Dylan, this is really well written. I do feel your pain while reading this book. I am personally not the biggest fan of reading, but this book has caught my eye and is a good book to read. It does break my heart though, because the events that have taken place are horrible. I agree that Elies writing is unique and very descriptive. I very much enjoyed reading your blog.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post very much. I agree with you on the topic of the Germans burning the children. To do something so awful requires a human who can not feel bad for other people. These are disgusting people and this was expected of the Nazis. They would remove guards if they were being too nice to the people. Overall, I enjoyed your blog.
